New recommendations call for all children ages 6 months to 18 years to receive the annual influenza vaccine.
Important notes:
- Children must be well to receive the vaccine (no fever or illness).
- Flu vaccines can be given at the same time as other vaccines at well child appointments.
- Children younger than age 9 need two doses at least one month apart if they:
- Are receiving the vaccine for the first time this year.
- Received the vaccine for the first time last year, but only received one dose.
FluMist nasal-spray vaccine also available.
