Personal history: Dr. Calkins grew up in Waukesha, Wis., and completed her undergraduate and medical education in Wisconsin. She was fortunate to travel to Denver, Colo., to complete her training in General Pediatrics. She was then chosen to be a chief resident for one year, during which she had to oversee the residency program and serve as an attending physician, teaching residents in both a hospital and clinic environment. She was very involved in the Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She worked in private practice in Colorado for three years, and subsequently moved to Kansas City for family reasons to work in private practice there for two years. She considers herself to be very fortunate to have now returned to the community in which she grew up and to have settled at Westbrook Pediatrics. Dr. Calkins says, "It always is a pleasure to see my patients and families at the store, park or even on the soccer fields." She is happily married, and has two wonderful children. Also, being a parent she can definitely relate to the rewards and challenges of parenting. Outside of the office, Dr. Calkins enjoys spending time with her family and being involved in her children's school and sports. Her interests include running, biking, hiking, skiing and cooking.
