Barbara Calkins, MD
It has really been my privilege to be able to be involved in the lives of so many wonderful families. Since 1999, I have been in private practice. Watching babies grow to be school-aged children and being part of the community they live in has been rewarding.
Being a pediatrician is so much more than well-checks or sick visits in the office: I am truly your child's advocate in their school and in their community. It involves me caring for them in the hospital as a newborn or sick child, or communicating with specialists for them when their care becomes more complicated. Or maybe it means calling their teachers/counselors to better understand the troubles they are having at school.
Being able to get on the level of a child to communicate and examine them is just one integral piece of forming a bond with your child. It also is getting to know the parents and the entire family, and being an effective communicator with adults. Both are a special gift that I have that I hope to share with you.
