About the vaccine...

We offer influenza vaccine to all of our patients who are older than 6-months of age and want to reduce their risk of becoming ill with influenza this winter.

We recommend annual influenza vaccination for...

  • All children 6-months to 5-years of age.
  • Children with chronic pulmonary disease (including asthma).
  • Children with heart, kidney or liver disease.
  • Children with metabolic disease (including diabetes).
  • Children with who have weakened immune systems (children with HIV or on chronic immunosuppressive medications).
  • All children (and adults) who have contact with children less than 5-years of age.
  • Healthy children who have contact with persons with medical conditions that put them at higher risk for severe complications.
  • Women who will be pregnant or breastfeeding during the influenza season.

We offer three types of vaccine: the "standard" injectable influenza vaccine indicated for patients 6-months and older; a preservative-free form for those parents concerned about thimerisol (click here for more information), and an intranasal form available in October for healthy children 2-years and older that saves children the discomfort of a shot!

Children 6-months to 8-years of age need two doses of the vaccine if they have not been previously vaccinated; those in this same age group who received only one dose in their first year of vaccination will still need to receive two doses this year.

Parents...  How about your own protection from influenza?
