After office hours

Physicians provide continuous coverage for emergencies in the evenings and on weekends. The number for the answering service is (414) 266-1824. All non-emergency calls should be placed during regular business hours so we can easily access your child's medical record.

On weekends, appointments are offered Saturday morning from 8:30 am to noon for sick children. On Sundays and holidays the on-call physician is responsible for making hospital rounds, so we ask for your cooperation in placing only calls that cannot wait until regular office hours.

Before you call, write down your concerns and take your child's temperature if a fever seems to be present. The advice given will be more meaningful if you give as many facts as possible. You may want to have the name and phone number of your pharmacy and be ready to write down any instructions. If you have not received a call back within one hour please call again.

When the doctors are paged, they usually are given only your phone number. When the doctor or nurse returns your call, please give your child's name, age and pediatrician's name. Remember to tell the physician if your child currently is taking any medications or has any medication allergies or chronic illnesses.

For life-threatening conditions, call 911 or go directly to any emergency room. Do not wait for the doctor to return your call. For all serious or potentially serious medical problems, we refer patients to the emergency room at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, available at (414) 266-2626.
