Sunscreen for kids younger than 6 months of age
- Avoid sun exposure!
- Dress children in lightweight long pants, long-sleeved shirts and brimmed hats.
- Sunscreen is not approved for this age group.
Sunscreen for kids 6 months and older
- Apply sunscreen with SPF greater than 30 about 30 minutes before going outside. Use about one ounce per sitting for a teen.
- Wear hats with three-inch brim.
- Use sunglasses that block 99 percent of UV rays.
- Avoid sun exposure during the peak intensity hours, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Reapply sunscreen every two hours, or after swimming or sweating.
- Avoid baby oil or other nonsunscreen oils.
