Healthy beverage tips
- Water! Water! Water!
- Limit fruit juices to 4 ounces per day.
- Try 1 percent or skim milk instead of whole or 2 percent milk.
- Save soda for special occasions.
Healthy eating tips
- Eat breakfast! It helps get your metabolism going.
- Remember to eat fruits and veggies EVERY day.
- Watch your portion sizes. Veggies should take up at least half or your plate. Split the rest of your plate with meat and starches. Remember, corn and potatoes don't count as veggies.
- Eat together as a family.
- Save takeout or fast food for once or twice each month.
Healthy snacking tips
Need something to tide you over? Try:
- Raw fruits or veggies with low-calorie dip or peanut butter.
- Yogurt or string cheese.
- Cheese and crackers.
- Nuts.
- Popcorn or pretzels.
Save candy, cookies, cakes, ice cream and chips for occasional snacks.
Exercise
Your goal should be 45 minutes of exercise at least four days per week. You want to increase your heart rate and sweat.
